Washington family sues Safeway after alleged fatal cookie mislabeling tragedy

DUVALL, Wash. — A family in King County filed a federal lawsuit against Safeway after their 78-year-old mother died from a severe allergic reaction to mislabeled cookies purchased at the grocery chain’s Duvall location.

Peggy Bryant, who was months away from celebrating her 60th wedding anniversary with her high school sweetheart, died on April 7, 2023, after consuming what she thought were Safeway brand oatmeal raisin cookies.
