Seattle to enact new ordinance to curb after-hours nightlife violence starting Monday

SEATTLE — A new ordinance aimed at reducing violence at after-hours nightlife venues is set to take effect Monday, following a deadly shooting outside a Pioneer Square club that claimed three lives on Saturday.

The ordinance, developed in response to a series of shootings and murders at after-hours establishments, seeks to establish safer standards for these venues. Erin Goodman, Executive Director of the SODO Business Improvement Area, said, “This ordinance has been honestly a long time coming.”

Goodman, who was involved in creating the ordinance, emphasized the need for safe socializing options after 2 a.m. “We do have to realize that people want to go out after 2 a.m., and we need to provide a vehicle so that businesses can operate and provide venues for people to socialize in that period of time but the most important part is they have to be able to do so safely,” she said…
