Belltown residents express fear, frustration amid rising crime and violence

SEATTLE — Hours after a Seattle police officer shot at a suspected drug dealer in Belltown, residents said they’ve grown increasingly frustrated with crime and violence.

“Every single day, right behind there, from morning till freaking… 24/7,” one woman said of the drug-related activity near 3rd Avenue and Battery Street. “I carry my taser, my strobe light, my mace and a switch blade.”

She lives less than a block from where the Seattle Police Department (SPD) said an officer interrupted a drug deal on Friday, leading to a foot chase. According to SPD, the suspected drug dealer pulled out a handgun during the pursuit and the officer fired their weapon. Nobody was shot and no injuries were reported…
