Seattle police say officers will take action ‘as a last resort’ at Saturday protests

SEATTLE — In a message ahead of the ‘No Kings’ protests on Saturday, Seattle police say officers will use “low profile” tactics and only take action if there is a clear and present danger.

The ‘No Kings’ protest, part of a nationwide day of rallies in opposition to the Trump administration, is expected to start at Cal Anderson Park in Capitol Hill at noon.

Our approach to protecting your safety at protests is always to be measured and responsive to the behavior of individuals, not the content of the message,” the department wrote in an online post ahead of the protest. “This means officers will not interfere until a response is critically necessary. Officers continuously assess the situation and adjust their response as needed. Officers can take action in situations involving violence, significant and unpermitted traffic disruptions, or other immediate threats to public and life safety. If officers give the order to leave the area, it will be lawful, audible, specific, and provide a clear exit path with sufficient time to safely leave the area.
