SEATTLE — Demonstrators shut down traffic in downtown Seattle after a day of peaceful protests, prompting police to clear the area late Saturday night.

The situation began just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Madison Street, people dressed mostly in black, many with their faces covered, gathered on the streets.
