Seattle police detained a 33-year-old man on Friday morning after a tense situation in South Seattle near Pritchard Island Beach. According to the Seattle Police Department’s blotter, the incident began with an assault report at around 6:25 a.m. and escalated when the man fired a shot at the officers trying to arrest him.
As the officers attempted to apprehend the suspect on the 8400 block of 55th Avenue South, they were met with resistance — an officer deployed their taser as the armed man fired a shot in their direction, but no officers were harmed. After firing at the police, the man fled towards the beach area, igniting a chase that pulled in additional law enforcement, including an SPD K9 unit, Tukwila police, and King County Sheriff’s deputies.
Local residents played a crucial role in the apprehension of the suspect, reporting sightings of a man fitting his description running through their backyards.
