SEATTLE — The city of Seattle may soon start suing graffiti taggers for the cost of cleaning up their damage.
City attorney Ann Davison presented legislation to the city council’s public safety committee on Tuesday that would authorize her office to use civil litigation against illegal taggers in addition to criminal prosecution.
“Today’s legislation proposes a civil action to pay or clean up the damage these taggers cause,” Davison said. “These individuals are responsible for extraordinary financial costs to the City and property owners. My legislation will make sure the taggers pay their fair share until they stop breaking the law.”…
