SEATTLE — As the sun shone down on Seattle and the temperature hovered around 80 degrees, volunteers and visitors jammed the streets to try and change the past and present a glimpse of the future.
As part of the “One Seattle” Day of Service, Seattle’s Mayor Bruce Harrell appeared at multiple morning events, along with business and civic leaders, to pick up trash and eliminate graffiti. Harrell repeated a popular refrain, “Government cannot do it alone. Employers cannot do it alone. Community-based organizations cannot do it alone.”
Harrell maintained a relatively positive tone, citing data to suggest shootings, crime, and overdoses are all down at the midway point, year over year, in a city that has grown by nearly 10 percent during his time in office…
