In the first half of July, the Kirkland Police Department has been busy responding to a wide array of calls. According to their social media post, between July 1 and 15, they’ve responded to 2,278 calls for service and made 62 arrests. The department highlighted a few notable incidents that underscore the variety and severity of situations officers encounter.
One arrest involved a 24-year-old man now facing charges for attempted unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree assault (domestic violence). Acting on instincts that betray a story as old as heartbreak, the suspect forced his ex-girlfriend into a vehicle, attempting to sidestep the law until a dead-end road and the tenacity of a K9 track put an end to his ill-fated evasion. The Kirkland Police Department reported the arrest, spotlighting the continual need for diligent law enforcement presence in domestic disputes.
The issue of driving under the influence also appeared prominent during the two-week period. On one occasion, a 22-year-old male driver, while aiming for a U-turn, came perilously close to striking a patrol car. After failing field sobriety tests, he was brought to the Kirkland Jail, where he registered blood alcohol content results double the legal limit. In a separate incident, a 42-year-old woman collided near a Totem Lake car dealership, leading to her arrest for DUI (drugs) after observers noted behavior consistent with drug use.
