Last night in Downtown Seattle, an act of violence was abruptly halted, thanks to the vigilant eyes of the city’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). Seattle police took a 19-year-old man into custody, attributing their swift action to the technological prowess of the center’s camera network. The incident took place just before the city stilled into the calm of 1 a.m., with patrol officers responding to a flagged down report of a disturbance on the 1500 block of 3rd Avenue, as detailed in an Seattle Police Department Blotter report.
Swiftly working to ensure they could quickly locate the melee, officers reached out to an RTCC analyst to harness the community space cameras. The RTCC was able to not only spot the altercation but also to provide a detailed description of the suspect to the officers.
