Seattle City Council gets update on efforts to reduce gun crime, overdoses

SEATTLE — City leaders received an update Thursday afternoon on efforts to drive down gun violence and drug overdoses in Seattle.

According to city data, homicides are down by around 25% in 2025 compared to the same time last year, and non-fatal shootings are down by around a third.

“These problems were years in the making, and we can’t take our eye off the ball,” Seattle City Council President Sara Nelson told KOMO News. “We’re not just talking about numbers, we’re not just talking about statistics, we’re talking about more people dying, more people getting shot, more people being addicted. Let’s not let that happen when we know what we can do better.”…
