Costco’s exclusive early shopping policy for executive members causing controversy

SEATTLE — Costco Wholesale’s new early access shopping policy is a new benefit for some shoppers and a point of contention for others.

Starting in June, the Issaquah-based warehouse chain allowed shoppers with Executive Memberships to enter the store early, starting at 9 a.m. on weekdays and Sundays, and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays. Customers with standard Gold Star memberships were supposed to wait until 10 a.m. to shop.

However, the company said the policy was not strictly enforced during a grace period…
