Nonprofits join to hold ‘Walk Against ICE’ in Silverdale

Volunteers from nine nonprofit organizations hosted a Walk Against ICE that drew 500 people to rally at Silverdale Waterfront Park Sept. 13.

It was the first Kitsap collaborative countywide “grassroots action for democracy” in support of immigrants and other at-risk neighbors, emphasizing preservation of U.S. Constitutional rights for all, organizers explained. The event featured sign-waving and a silent march through historical Old Town Silverdale streets, invited speakers, chanting, music and an information center representing Kitsap and Clallam counties and Washington nonprofit activist groups, per a news release.

Non-partisan speakers promoted advocacy for immigrants via education, diversity, equity, inclusion, voting values over party and treating people with compassion over cruelty. Kitsap Immigration Assistance Center (KIAC) and Washington Immigration Solidarity Network (WISN) representatives were available to provide resources for safer asylum for those who fled persecution in home countries…
