New ferry proposed between Tacoma and Seattle ahead of World Cup

TACOMA, Wash. — Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello has proposed a new fast ferry between Tacoma and Seattle, with a goal of launching a pilot program before the World Cup in 2026, when an estimated 750,000 people are expected in the region for the event.

The plan calls for eight round trips each day, with each leg taking about one hour to complete. Each would hold up to 29 passengers per ride.
