After re-opening earlier this year, this destination bakery in Kent is making fantastic sweet treats

In downtown Kent, at the corner of W Meeker Street, sits Sweet Themes Bakery, a spot where food becomes more than just nourishment — it becomes a way of connecting with culture, health, and community. For owner Theresa Ameri, who spent more than three decades working as a nurse, this bakery represents a second chapter in life: one where her love of food anthropology, healthful eating, and all things delicious converge in a warm, welcoming space.

Theresa pivoted careers in August 2024, stepping away from healthcare to pursue her long-held culinary passion. By January 2025, she had purchased Sweet Themes Bakery, determined to create a place where ingredients are treated with respect and artificial or overly processed foods have no place. “Anyone can enjoy food when it’s prepared with attention to where ingredients come from and how they’re treated,” she says. That philosophy underpins every cookie, pie, and scone that leaves the bakery’s kitchen.
