Last week, a tense scenario involving armed suspects unfolded at the Lake Washington Apartments, leading to the arrest of several youths and the recovery of a worrying array of weapons. According to the Seattle Police Department’s Blotter, patrol officers were responding to a tip about an armed individual on September 22, at around 3:45 p.m., when they identified a suspicious vehicle known from a previous shooting on September 20.
Spotted between buildings on the 9000 block of Seward Park Avenue South, the suspected vehicle, a Chevrolet Malibu, had been reported seen in the context of what looked like teens handling firearms. After setting up an arrest team, officers approached, prompting the suspects to flee and inadvertently sending their car crashing into a police cruiser. Running after the suspects, police managed to apprehend four—a pair of 16-year-old boys, and two girls, 16 and 17. Two others remain at large.
Further investigation allowed the authorities to seize the vehicle and acquire a search warrant, which unearthed a chilling stockpile. The arsenal included several firearms—a submachine gun, handguns equipped with auto switches and high-capacity magazines—and an ammunition crate filled with rifle bullets. A backpack containing an extended magazine and a ski mask, a cellphone, a high school geometry book, and some ID cards, along with key fobs, was also found, according to the Seattle Police Department.
