Judge finds Belltown shooting suspect competent to stand trial

SEATTLE — The man accused of killing a pregnant woman and her child in Belltown in 2023 has been found competent to stand trial.

On Thursday, King County Superior Court Judge Melina Young ruled that 33-year-old Cordell Maurice Goosby is fit to proceed. The decision followed a Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) report that concluded Goosby does not have a mental disease or defect that would prevent him from understanding court proceedings.

DSHS psychologist Dr. Roman Lokhmotov did note that Goosby showed “emotional instability,” “paranoid thought content,” and “poor judgment and impaired thought.”…
