Rainier Avenue South Robbery Foiled by Local Bystanders; Suspect Arrested

On October 20, 2025, Seattle police arrested a 46-year-old man after a robbery at a grocery store on the 3800 block of Rainier Avenue South. The incident happened around 3:15 p.m. The suspect, who was under Department of Corrections supervision, was seen hiding items and tried to leave without paying. When a security guard confronted him, the suspect used pepper spray several times and punched the guard while trying to escape.

The struggle continued inside and outside the store. A customer who was not involved at first helped stop the suspect. Other bystanders helped hold him until police arrived.
