Longtime Bellevue College Counselor Leaves $1.8 Million for Local Student Scholarships

The Bellevue College Foundation has received a $1.8 million bequest from Daniel J. LaFond, a former instructor and counselor who died in October 2024. The endowment will fund scholarships for students in alcohol and drug counseling, social work, and related fields.

Daniel J. LaFond worked at Bellevue College for 35 years. He started as an adjunct faculty member in 1970 and became a full-time instructor in 1974. He helped launch programs in Gerontology and orientation for new career students. He later chaired the social and human services program and led the Counseling Center. LaFond taught courses in social welfare, human services, criminal theories, and correction counseling.

In 2013, LaFond and his wife Clare created the Daniel J. and Clare LaFond Scholarship. This scholarship has provided financial support to students.
