Seattle man charged with first-degree murder in fatal shooting at Mount Baker apartment

SEATTLE — Prosecutors have charged a 31-year-old Seattle man with first-degree murder, accusing him of shooting and killing a 65-year-old resident during an attempted break-in at a Mount Baker apartment complex last month, according to newly filed charging documents.

Jhose Danisetto Georgeo Mafferson is accused of fatally shooting Juan Carlos Barcelo-Rivero on Nov. 17 at the victim’s apartment on 33rd Avenue South. Prosecutors say Mafferson tried to force his way inside the second-floor unit before firing a single round through the door, striking Barcelo-Rivero in the chest.

Seattle police responding to a 911 call at 10:03 p.m. found Barcelo-Rivero dead inside the doorway of his apartment. Detectives noted a gunshot hole in the front door and recovered surveillance footage showing a man in a black puffy jacket and white “MVP” hat entering the building minutes before the shooting and running out moments afterward…
