SEATTLE — A 42-year-old man is in custody after authorities say he brutally struck an elderly woman in Downtown Seattle on Monday afternoon.
Around midday, witnesses alerted police after seeing a man walking near 3rd Avenue and James Street while brandishing a wooden stick fitted with a metal screw. According to the report, he soon approached a woman waiting to cross the street at the intersection of 3rd and James and swung the object with force, hitting her in the face from behind.
The blow knocked the woman backward, causing a severe cut that bled heavily. People nearby rushed to help and notified emergency services as the attacker continued walking away.
