City Acquires 12.5 Acres Along Cedar River for New Public Park in Renton

The City of Renton, Washington, has purchased 12.5 acres of land along the Cedar River. This move is part of the city’s plan to expand public park space. The new property includes 1,500 feet of riverfront and will become a public park. This project follows the city’s 2006 Tri-Park Master Plan and updates from 2011 and 2020.

The land was owned by the Merlino family for over 50 years and was once the site of Stoneway Concrete. It will now be used for public recreation. City officials, including Mayor Armondo Pavone, said that acquiring large riverfront properties is not common. The mayor said the new park will benefit the community for many years.

The new park will improve public access to the Cedar River, help salmon recovery, and support shoreline restoration. City leaders, such as Gina Estep and Amanda Free, said the project will improve quality of life and may bring more economic investment to the area…
