The Bellevue City Council has unanimously approved placing additional speed cameras on Bellevue streets, starting with seven locations next year.
Updates to the city code will help expand the city’s speed safety-camera program, which aims to reduce dangerous speeding — a leading cause of serious and fatal crashes in the area, a press release noted.
The addition of cameras complies with a 2024 state law that grants cities the authority to install cameras in high-risk areas beyond school zones and direct revenue from citations toward traffic-safety projects.
