‘Fueled by hatred’: Washington man sentenced after using pipe bomb to blow up Black couple’s car

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – An Everett, Washington man was sentenced to prison on Monday after using a pipe bomb to blow up a Black couple’s vehicle in an incident the Justice Department says was fueled by hatred for the victims’ race.

The United States Department of Justice announced that 55-year-old Steven Goldstine was sentenced to five years in prison in the United States District Court in Seattle for three federal felonies.

This comes after Goldstine pleaded guilty in September to unlawful possession of a destructive device, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawful possession of a firearm.

During Goldstine’s sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge John H. Chun stated, “This case involves serious and quite frankly horrifying conduct. Add in the racist statements it is disgusting conduct.”…
