A horrific scene unfolded in Kitsap County earlier this week when a leashed pitbull broke free and attacked a disabled Rhodesian Ridgeback named Jasper. The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office reported that the violent confrontation started at the intersection of 2nd Ave. West and West Earhart Street in unincorporated Bremerton when the pitbull managed to get loose. Following the initial attack, three other pitbulls owned by the same individual ran through an open door and joined the fray, escalating the violence. This detail was confirmed by the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
The melee resulted in the death of Jasper, the Ridgeback, who was unable to survive the injuries sustained. A neighbor who witnessed the attack described it to KOMO News as “the most animalistic, barbaric scene.” The owner of the pitbulls, a 28-year-old man, is now under investigation for a potential violation of Washington State’s Dangerous Dogs law, as noted by both FOX 13 Seattle and KIRO 7.
In addition to the tragic loss of Jasper, eight individuals suffered injuries during the attack, with the majority requiring hospitalization for serious bites. Details of the incident explain that attempts to subdue the dogs using pepper spray proved ineffective. It was only once the dogs’ owner finally regained control that the violence was quelled. Lauren Laney, who was present at the scene, recounted to KOMO News her efforts to intervene, saying, “I ran over there to see if I could help, and it was four Pit bulls attacking this one dog.”…
