MERCER ISLAND, Wash. — Hundreds of people gathered Sunday at Pioneer Park to remember Danielle Cuvillier, 80, and her son Dominick, known as Nick, 34, who were killed in a family tragedy that has shaken communities on Mercer Island.
The vigil, organized by community members who knew the pair well, drew mourners who lit candles and walked the perimeter of the park as a light drizzle fell. Many had seen Danielle and Nick walking the park’s trails regularly — so regularly that neighbors created a tradition of hiding small toys in the trees for Nick to find.
“He’d come with a net and he’d look through the trees and find toys every day,” said Marcy Spahi, Danielle’s former neighbor. “It was exciting.”…
