Advocates prepare for potential increase in trafficking during World Cup in Seattle

SEATTLE — As Seattle gets ready for the World Cup to bring hundreds of thousands of people into the region, advocates are also preparing for an expected increase in human trafficking, typically associated with large-scale sporting events.

Advocates tell KOMO News it’s hard to track or estimate how many human trafficking victims might be taken to the area during the World Cup, but local organizations are raising awareness and preparing early to try to help.

With the World Cup expected to draw 750,000 visitors to the Seattle area and bring close to a billion dollars in economic impact, advocates unfortunately expect some of those dollars to boost human trafficking in the region…
