ICE access to personal driver data resulted in 9 immigration arrests, UW report finds

SEATTLE — A new report found that the Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) shared drivers’ personal data with federal immigration enforcement agencies (ICE), using a system administered by Washington State Patrol (WSP), resulting in at least nine confirmed immigration arrests last year.

The data was gathered by the University of Washington Center for Human Rights (UWCHR).

The nine cases in the report were Washington drivers who were subjected to immigration enforcement while driving, following a search of their license plate number in the Washington Department of Licensing (DOL)’s database by federal agents.
