Former Northshore School District teacher arrested in sting pleads guilty

REDMOND, Wash. — The former Northshore School District teacher arrested in a sting operation in Dec. 2024 pleaded guilty in court and will be sentenced on Friday.

John Erwin Butz, 61, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted molestation of a child in the second degree on Dec. 15, 2025.

This is in connection to his arrest in Dec. 2024, after he responded to an online ad seeking a tutor for two young girls. He was arrested at a Redmond hotel, where police say he believed he was meeting underage girls for illicit purposes…
