New pirate festival coming to Kitsap’s winter calendar

Watch out for pirates in Bremerton’s Quincy Square at the end of February. Or just join the crew.

A brand-new Bremerton Pirate Festival will take place downtown on Feb. 28, welcoming families to dress like pirates and join in free activities like scavenger hunts and a costume contest. Food vendors, a staple of the downtown block’s public activities and the regular Friday food truck day, will be present, according to festival organizer Esther Chilcutt, and a pirate princess will make an appearance.

Chilcutt, a Kenmore resident who has experience organizing conventions, wanted to bring a pirate-themed festival to Bremerton for a personal reason: her mother lives here. She was also enticed by the Roxy Theatre, the nonprofit movie house on the block that agreed to screen “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” at 3:30 p.m. that day. The movie is scheduled to include an appearance by actor Isaac C. Singleton Jr., who played Bo’sun from the movie and has voiced Thanos in Marvel cartoons and games…
