9-Year-Old Injured at Stevens Pass After Skiing Accident, Bystanders and Ski Patrol Assist

STEVENS PASS – A 9-year-old boy was injured while skiing at Stevens Pass Ski & Snowboard Resort this week after losing control and crashing into trees near a terrain park, prompting a coordinated response from bystanders, ski instructors, and ski patrol.

According to a social media post shared by the child’s mother, Heather Glude of Bothell, the incident occurred on the run known as Daisy. Other skiers on chairlifts alerted her that her son had gone off course and into the trees. By the time she reached him, another skier had already stopped and climbed down to help and remained with them throughout the rescue.

The boy had fallen into a tree well on a steep slope, making extraction difficult and time-consuming. An instructor and several bystanders assisted from above, setting skis in an X formation and signaling to divert downhill traffic while the child was carefully brought up the slope. Another instructor helped Glude’s father by escorting him to the Hogsback lift and arranging priority loading so he could return to the scene quickly…
