Pharmacist makes late-night trip to ensure cancer patient’s treatment

One Confluence Health pharmacist went above and beyond for a cancer patient’s treatment last week. Since the fall, Confluence Health had been working on implementing a new cancer treatment called BiSpecific T-Cell Engager Therapy, or BiTE, to its system and planned to administer the treatment to a patient with lung cancer for the first time. Everything was in order until a series of storms delayed the vial’s arrival at the Mares Campus, which caused the drug to be recalled. After getting in touch with the University of Washington, Oncology Pharmacist Christy Hamilton decided to make a late-night trip to Seattle to ensure the patient received treatment the following day.
