SEATTLE — Neighbors in Seattle’s Madison Park are rallying a last-ditch effort to call for the protection of a century-old Redwood slated to be cut down as early as Monday.
The massive Redwood towers over a sloped lot at 700 McGilvra Blvd E, and the property owner and developer has been given a city permit to remove the tree. The property owner has plans to build a second home on his lot and told KOMO News he must first construct a retaining wall but claimed the Redwood is in the way.
Neighbors have been fighting for over a year to save the more than 100-year-old tree but acknowledge that fight is now likely over. Julie Tokashiki Skerritt, who has spearheaded neighbors’ efforts, has planned a community gathering Sunday afternoon to recognize the tree’s final days and discuss the future protection of other trees in the area…
