Navy confirms USS Nimitz deploying to Southern Command

The USS Nimitz aircraft carrier, which departed Bremerton on March 7 for the final time before its planned decommissioning, is scheduled ​​to arrive in San Diego on Tuesday, a Navy spokesperson for the ship, Pete Pagano, confirmed with Kitsap Sun.

“The ship is deploying to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility this spring as part of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet’s Southern Seas 2026 deployment. This coincides with our scheduled homeport shift to Norfolk, VA in preparation for the ship’s deactivation,” Pagano said.
