Woman detained on UW’s Greek Row identified as subject of federal warrant, officials say

SEATTLE — A woman taken into custody near the University District was detained on a federal warrant, not for immigration enforcement, according to statements from city and university officials.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson said her office has been closely monitoring the situation after reports circulated about a woman being detained and separated from her young child, who is now in the care of Child Protective Services.

A video of the arrest, first reported on ICEOut.org, a website that compiles user-reported immigration enforcement activity, showed a woman being taken into custody by armed agents, wearing bullet-proof vests.
