Housing costs are rising across the U.S., and many cities are rapidly becoming unaffordable. According to the National Association of Realtors, the Fixed Housing Affordability Index in the United States fell by 10.6 percent annually in December 2025, a significant burden on the market.

Zillow shows that the average home price in the U.S. is currently $357,275, a slight 0.1 percent increase over the past year. Different pressures, such as tech booms, population trends, and constrained housing supply, are driving high costs.
