While Husky Deli in the West Seattle Junction has long been a local legend for its incredible variety of ice cream, it has also been a staple for sandwich lovers for more than 35 years. Recently, a new star was born in the deli’s kitchen: the Westside Seattle Wonder Sandwich, a custom-branded creation crafted by Jack Miller himself.
Jack Miller, who considers himself a sandwich expert after decades of experience, personally oversaw the making of this new masterpiece. When dreaming up a new menu item, Jack’s philosophy is all about balance and quality. “You’re trying to figure out what goes well together and you don’t want to overdo it,” Miller explained, noting that the key is ensuring no single ingredient—like a heavy mustard or pesto—overpowers the rest.
The “Wonder” begins with high-quality Macrina Marble Rye Bread, which Jack toasted to perfection during the creation process. The sandwich is then layered with:
- Thin-sliced roasted turkey
- Three short slices of Applewood Bacon
- Thin-sliced tomato and a crisp Romaine lettuce leaf
- Light mayonnaise
The true “flavor twist” that sets this sandwich apart is the addition of Inglehoffer Applewood Bacon Mustard, a special ingredient that uses real bacon to provide a unique savory kick.
The initial taste tests were a resounding success, with those involved giving it a glowing verdict. Jack noted that it “came out extremely well,” and the sandwich will soon be joining the deli’s regular rotation. Whether it becomes a “sandwich of the day” or a permanent fixture, the Westside Seattle Wonder Sandwich is a testament to Husky Deli’s commitment to using “good stuff” to create community favorites.…
