Seattle police credit surveillance cameras in arrest as debate continues

SEATTLE — The second of two men accused of randomly attacking a 77-year-old man in downtown Seattle pleaded not guilty Monday as the violent assault — and the surveillance footage that helped solve it — intensified Seattle’s debate over public safety cameras and government monitoring.

Jes’sean Elion, 26, appeared in King County Superior Court and entered a not guilty plea to one count of second-degree assault in connection with the April 19 attack near Third Avenue and Pike Street.
