The University of Alabama at Birmingham was ranked 42nd out of 303 leading biomedical research institutions nationwide for turning scientific discoveries into real-world healthcare impact, according to the inaugural 2026 Cure Innovation Index.
The ranking places UAB among the top five public institutions in the Southeast, marking it the only public university in the Deep South to reach the top 50.
