UAB doctor shares insight as CDC investigates Cyclosporiasis cases

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — There’s an outbreak of the parasitic infection Cyclosporiasis, and it’s linked to contaminated produce.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention is currently monitoring cases. So far, the CDC has not reported any infections in Alabama, but health officials want the public to be aware.

According to Dr. Megan Amerson Brown, an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, health officials can usually pinpoint the place where a parasite began to spread. However, with this latest outbreak, they haven’t been able to do that.
