CAPE GIRARDEAU — A man admitted involvement in the burglary of a Kennett pharmacy last year that resulted in the theft of 16,800 pills. Cornelius Cardez Bray, 31, of Birmingham, Alabama pleaded guilty to charges related to the incident, which occurred on March 13, 2025.
Bray pleaded guilty to one count of intent to steal a controlled substance and one count of possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone. The stolen pills included 7,500 hydrocodone pills and 7,500 pills containing benzodiazepine drugs. Bray acted as the driver for David Jerome Evans, also 31 and from Birmingham, who broke into the pharmacy.
A police officer, responding to an alarm at the pharmacy, spotted a car with Tennessee license plates leaving Kennett. The officer recalled seeing a similar car taking pictures of another pharmacy in town days earlier and attempted to stop Bray. Bray sped away, eventually crashing the vehicle.
