BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Leaders with Birmingham City Schools are continuing their aggressive recruitment efforts to fill dozens of special education classrooms across the district, including thousands of dollars in cash incentives to attract certified educators.
While the school system is seeing stronger overall staffing levels compared to last year, special education remains a challenge. The district currently has 34 vacancies for critical roles, including collaborative educators and self-contained classroom teachers.
