The warm spell will not last, as an upper ridge breaks down by the weekend, opening the door for scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday. Rain totals could exceed two inches in many places, followed by cooler air the week of October 5 to 9, with highs dropping into the 70s.
Temperatures Climb Toward 90 Degrees by Midweek
After a comfortable stretch, temperatures are set to climb steadily through the first half of the week. Highs in the low to mid 80s early in the week will give way to 90-degree heat for many communities by Wednesday and Thursday.
The warm-up comes as an upper-level ridge of high pressure builds over the Southeast. Residents in Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, and Mobile should prepare for summer-like afternoons, staying hydrated and limiting strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat.
Warmer Nights Follow With Lows Near 70
Morning temperatures will also trend warmer as the week goes on. Lows start in the upper 50s early in the week before rising into the upper 60s to near 70 degrees by late week.
The warmer nights mean less relief after sunset, with air conditioners likely running more often. Humidity is also expected to increase as moisture returns ahead of the weekend pattern change.
