Very Cold Air Mass Could Bring First Real Freeze to Alabama Including Huntsville, Birmingham, and Florence Next Weekend With Lows Near 29

ALABAMA — A very cold air mass for this time of year could settle over the Deep South late next week, with the coldest air compared to normal centered right over Alabama. The latest GFS model shows Saturday morning, November 14, starting in the upper 20s across North Alabama, with freezing temperatures reaching as far south as Montgomery and Auburn. The event is still about eight days out, and one model run does not make a forecast, but residents with outdoor plants or pets should start thinking about a plan.

North Alabama Could Wake Up in the Upper 20s

If the model run is correct, North Alabama would see the coldest readings in the state on Saturday morning. Florence, Cullman, and Anniston are projected to drop to around 29 degrees, while Huntsville and Gadsden could reach about 30 degrees.

Jasper is forecast to fall to around 31 degrees. Temperatures this low would mark a true freeze for much of North Alabama and could end the growing season for many outdoor plants.

Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery Near Freezing

Central Alabama would also turn very cold, with temperatures right around the freezing mark. Tuscaloosa and Auburn are projected to drop to about 32 degrees, while Birmingham and Montgomery could reach around 33 degrees.

Even if temperatures stay just above freezing in some spots, frost could still form in low-lying and rural areas. Residents should be prepared for a very chilly start to the weekend across the Birmingham and Montgomery areas.

South Alabama Stays Cold but Above Freezing

South Alabama would stay a bit milder but still feel quite cold for mid-November. Dothan is projected to fall to around 36 degrees, while Mobile could reach about 41 degrees…
