3rd suspect arrested in connection to 2022 shooting of 15-year-old in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Birmingham Police Department has announced the arrest of a third suspect in connection to the 2022 shooting investigation of 15-year-old Christian Savage.

Derrick Greene, 20, of Birmingham was arrested after detectives obtained warrants for his arrest on attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling charges. On Tuesday, Greene was arrested at a residence in east Birmingham. He is in custody of the Jefferson County Jail and is being held under a $75,000 bond.

According to BPD, Savage was shot and killed on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, while playing video games inside his home in the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes Housing Community. Authorities say Savage was innocent and an unintended target.

Omar Smith, 19, of Birmingham, was arrested and charged with two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and attempted murder. His bond totaled $300,000. Martez Johnson, 19, of Birmingham, was also arrested and charged with two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and attempted murder. His bond totaled $750,000.
