BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Candles, cake, and grandma in handcuffs; that’s how a family in Homewood says their nine year old will remember her birthday. Her family is thankful a mix-up with police on Sunday did not take a turn for the worse but they are demanding accountability from the department. According to both the family and police, it started with a 911 call Sunday afternoon from an entirely different family in the same neighborhood. That family claims one of their elderly relatives with dementia was on the way to their home in Edgecrest estates to kill them.
