BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a Birmingham woman’s death.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, Jayden Gildersleeve, of Midfield, is charged with capital murder (kidnapping) and first-degree kidnapping. Genise Carter, 43, was found fatally shot in the 1200 block of 18th Street North on Jan. 25 .

The BPD, with assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff Office’s Star One helicopter, took Gildersleeve into custody in the 200 block of Third Avenue Southwest on Wednesday. BPD detectives presented information about the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday and obtained warrants for the criminal charges.
Gildersleeve is being held under no bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
