How to ‘adopt’ an animal at the Birmingham Zoo

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Birmingham Zoo is offering individuals a chance to symbolically adopt an animal.

Individuals can adopt a pet from one of five tiers: Go Green ($25), Animal Supporter ($50), Animal Advocate ($100), Animal Keeper ($250) or Animal Ambassador ($500 and up). Each tier is accompanied by a different level of connection with the animal, but all five tiers come with a certificate, a photo of the animal and a fact sheet about the animal.

This symbolic adoption, according to the Birmingham Zoo, helps provide food, welfare and vital care for the zoo’s animals, as well as support education and conservation programs at the zoo.

Animals available for “adoption” include the african lion, black bear, fennec fox, flamingo, giant river otter, golden eagle, ball python, Sumatran orangutan, red panda and much more. For a full list of animals and descriptions of each adoption tier, visit the Birmingham Zoo’s website here .
