Homewood Marching Band raising funds for Ireland trip

HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Homewood High School Marching Band will travel to Ireland in March and is raising money for the trip.

The Patriot Band will march in two St. Patrick’s Day parades. One will be in Dublin, while the other parade is set to take place the suburb of Cellbridge. Homewood High School Marching Band Director Chris Cooper said the trip is something special for the students and their parents.

“I had some parents reach out and say ‘Hey, we went to Ireland in ’93, and our kids are now in the band. Would you consider that trip?’” Cooper said. “And we started looking into it, and I said ‘You know what. We’re just going to apply.’”

Gambling, education important issues in upcoming Alabama legislative session

The Homewood Arts Council is hosting a benefit concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday to raise funds for the trip. Sean Dietrich, known as “Sean of the South,” and the bluegrass band Three on a String will be there. Limited tickets remain, which you can purchase here .
