Mental evaluation pushes back trial for defendant charged in Kamille ‘Cupcake’ McKinney’s death

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A Jefferson County Circuit Judge will soon determine whether Derick Brown, 33, is competent to stand trial for capital murder. Brown is charged with two counts of capital murder involving the kidnapping and murder of 3-year-old Kamille ‘Cupcake’ McKinney in October 2019. The state is seeking the death penalty.
